New Year, New You: Be More Fun

Remember those new years resolutions?  We’ve passed Quitters Day, that date midway through January where a lot of those hard-to-keep resolutions have gone by the wayside.

So let’s move into a new resolution – one that is equally enjoyable for you…and the people in your life.  This year, let’s resolve to Be More Fun.

Exercise more, eat better – both very worthy and life changing resolutions.  But both also require a level of discipline that is often challenging right out of the gate.

So give yourself an early and achievable small success that becomes a stepping stone for those bigger resolutions.  Make your bed?  Sure – that’s genius-level advice.  And a book we happily recommend.

But you can also resolve to be more fun.  With all that that entails.  Find ways to make the people in your life just a bit happier. It doesn’t have to be in big ways, just something fun that you can do together occasionally that helps us maintain those important connections in our lives..

We are big advocates of collaborative play at Surprizle.  It’s something to celebrate.  An activity we learn at a young age – something that brings us together, helping to build shared connections with friends or family.

The Surprizle product is built around this idea that play adds value to our relationships.  And that gamification invites play – and can make friendships more fun.

We recently used Surprizle to design a silly trivia game built around birthday gifts.  A game where it takes feedback and suggestions from the entire group to answer the multiple trivia questions that unlock the birthday boy’s gift…making the birthday celebration just a bit more interactive and playful.

And we’re not just talking about your SO or your family.  Gamification of social time works great with friends as well.

Guys hanging out at a weekend cabin?  Games are a big part of how men and boys interact with one another.  Whether it’s playing or watching sports, playing tabletop games, video games, RPGs, or poker nights, games often legitimize guys spending time with one another.  Both in person and online.

So do yourself the mental favor of investing time in supporting and (healthfully) building up those relationships in your life.

Look for the opportunities to bring some lighthearted fun to friends and family in this new year.  Resolve to be more fun!
